November 2013<\/em><\/p>\n

I, Valdur Rosenvald, am walking in the gentle rain with thirty other soldiers along the long perimeter, all of us wearing heavy backpacks. In six months my military service in the Viru Infantry Battalion will end. <\/p>\n

I dream of getting married<\/strong>, even though I don’t have a girlfriend yet. But for some reason I’ve called one girl, Johanna, several times more during my time in the army than my other friends. <\/p>\n

I move forward in line and repeat my main goals <\/strong>in my head: To create my own photography company, build myself a home, and successfully defend my psychology degree at the University of Tartu. I believe that all of this will help me be a good husband to my wife in the future. This is my plan for my dream life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But will I succeed?<\/p>\n

I won a succession of scholarships<\/strong> for excellent results in my psychology studies<\/strong>, and the first steps to building<\/strong> my own home<\/strong> were taken.<\/p>\n

It’s late at night, I step into the hallway and dial Johanna’s phone number. Because she’s no longer just a friend, she’s now my girlfriend<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

My goals have been met or are well on their way to being met. I have all the reason to be genuinely happy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But I’m not happy.<\/strong> I’m on the verge of burnout.<\/p>\n

During this phone call I realise a terrible reality. The only thing I can talk to my dear girlfriend about is how busy I am<\/strong> and how tired I am<\/strong>. I’m not really emotionally present for her. <\/p>\n

I’ve been working frantically<\/strong> to achieve my goals<\/strong> but I haven’t taken a break<\/strong>. I haven’t slept<\/strong> properly and I haven’t taken care of my body<\/strong> and mind<\/strong>. I’m completely exhausted. <\/p>\n

Lofty goals and motivation isn’t enough.<\/p>\n

I have lived in such a way that the most important things have taken a back seat.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eight friends and I are sitting at a long table in a hipster caf\u00e9, but we haven’t come together just to talk. Turns out I wasn’t the only one who felt that being in a hurry could mean missing the most important things in life<\/strong>. To make sure that doesn’t happen, we have a shared desire to get better at time management. <\/p>\n

We will start meeting regularly to go through productivity topics together. Prioritising, delegating, saying no, focusing, managing information and creating habits. Our goal is not to talk about these topics, but to make practical changes<\/strong> that will make our lives better<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

It worked. Applying the principles of productivity has helped me to:
\n \u2013 start one of Estonia’s<\/span> most <\/span>successful wedding photography businesses<\/strong>,<\/strong>
\n<\/span> \u2013 start and <\/span>grow Produktiivsusklubi as CEO<\/strong>,<\/strong>
\n<\/span> \u2013 graduate <\/span>psychology in University ofr Tartu cum laude <\/em><\/strong>
and<\/strong>
\n<\/span> \u2013 build <\/span>my dream home<\/strong> without a loan.<\/span><\/p>\n

What’s most important – to be present<\/strong> for Johanna<\/strong> and our two<\/strong> children<\/strong> and to maintain my mental and physical health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

No, not everything went perfectly.<\/strong> We have had to freeze salaries because there is no money. Johanna cried in the evenings because life with babies was so exhausting. A client chose another photographer because “their portfolio is just so much better.” <\/p>\n

But we saw how the conscious application of productivity principles changed our lives. Together with Arno Lehtsaar<\/strong> and Jakob Gill<\/strong> we realised that it was not right to keep this experience as a closed club for a narrow circle. <\/p>\n

We decided to start a company with a mission to help people truly<\/strong> become more productive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Produktiivsusklubi was founded.<\/p>\n

Why? Because setting goals, establishing habits, keeping focus…. it’s all just so exciting. I was like a little kid with a new toy, but the excitement keeps on coming. I want to share all this with you. To do it better, I graduated in Quality Management. I wrote my thesis on how to ensure and measure the quality of courses. <\/p>\n
